Day 2 San Diego…the saga continues <3

Our first full day in San Diego started with a trip to Coronado Island. We wanted to show the kids the beautiful, iconic Hotel Coronado.

We strolled in with our Homewood Suite towels draped over shoulders and wrapped around our waists trying to act like guests.

But I don’t think we fooled anyone.

After exploring the lobby and gift shop, we headed out to the beach.

It is just beautiful and even with all the ritzy atmosphere, the beach is open to anyone. The kids were thrilled that it appeared to be empty of swimmers…the whole Pacific to themselves.

Away they went until Mom spotted this…

ugh!!!!

So dad waved them all back from the shore line before they were beyond ankle deep. They contented themselves with some rock exploring and sand digging for a bit before we all loaded up and headed back to the car.

Of course some needed to take advantage of the upscale facilities one more time, allowing this one and me to get a selfie.

Then we headed back to public beach in La Jolla. Some of us were starting to wear down.

Parking was at a premium and we drove through narrow streets of houses until we found a couple of spots that were not too far a walk to the beach for the kids. Russ and I decided to forego more walking and rock sitting and found a darling lunch spot in La Jolla.

The Flower Pot Cafe and Bakery https://www.flowerpotcafe.org was filled to the brim with…flower pots…but also the coolest array of antiques. It was like you were having lunch at your Great Grandma’s.

I ordered a half sandwich which the girl didn’t hear and gave me a full. We ended up taking it to the kids and they all made a meal of it so the portions were generous!

Our lunch took about the same time as their swim session, so we drove back to where they are parked and loaded our two kiddos back in the car to head to the hotel.

We planned to visit Russ’s cousin Debbie and her husband that evening for pizza.

They graciously hosted us early so we could return to the hotel in time to cheer the University of Illinois Illini on to the Final Four. Such a fun group of boys this year. We loved them.

The game was starting as we got back to the hotel. Of course G was already pulling it up on his phone. The bag he is clutching is filled to the brim with all kinds of fun snack bags of chips and cookies. Debbie had raided Costco for the best assortment and had in bowls for the kids to fill bags for the game and the flight home.

It was the sweetest and most thoughtful gesture. She knew the kids could take snacks through security and she wanted to make sure they had enough to get us all home. So kind. True hospitality runs in the Reimer genes, and it has blessed me and our family through the generations.

We all gathered our room to watch the game, which did not disappoint.

We all went to bed so very happy for these boys and excited to see them make it to the Final Four.

Tomorrow will be about our last day in San Diego. Hope you are enjoying the photos and stories. Thanks for indulging me <3
