A word from the weekend that I just can’t shake off <3

April is winding down, obviously and I have no grasp of where it went. This year is flying by at an extraordinary pace.
I am headed off to school shortly, but I wanted to drop a note to you before the week slips away.
I can’t stop thinking about something our pastor said on Sunday in his sermon.
Brian was addressing the top reasons people give for not attending church regularly.
When he listed “it is full of hypocrites”, I cringed and thought …. Here we go.
Most often when a pastor talks about this assessment of the church he or she makes it feel like a slap in the face to me.
However, the way Brian worded it hit so much better.
While he, like every other pastor I have heard agreed with the statement that the church is indeed full of hypocrites, his illustration redeemed us. It is the truth but in a way that supports and encourages rather than condemns us who attend church.
He said it would be like deciding to get in shape and heading to the gym. When you get there, you look around and see all these other people who are not all fit and trim working out. You assess that since they are in the gym and not in shape they are hypocrites and leave.
Then in typical Brian style he added. Yep, the church is full of hypocrites – people like you who are trying to grow and mature in faith and failing from time to time.
Come on in.
There is always room for one more.
Blessings friends.
Have a happy Tuesday <3
