I wonder from time to time who exactly starts trends in clothing.

I ponder who the master mind behind the front tuck, barrel jean, skinny pant, leggings…no now joggers is.

It’s not the fashion week people. They are busy creating body art, not clothing.

I also spend some time trying to understand how the general populace picks up on it and spreads and then discards it.

Who was the first one who wore it? Who saw it and copied and how on earth did so many buy into it?

Who ends it?

Who decides that this is no longer fashionable and how do they get the memo out to the rest of us?

Remember the Christmas book my friend Shelly and I put out last year?

While this time last year we were waiting anxiously for the publication finale, this year…she is facing one of those hard seasons.

Her precious father passed away on November 1st.

He was a dandy, in the words of one of our dear friends.

A U.T. Fan in the midst of a bunch of Aggies.

IYKYK (if you know…you know)

Today was the visitation and funeral in Dallas, and our sweet John went to represent our family and bring love and condolences.

If you have met Shelly through her writing on Chuckles in the Chaos or in the book, please say a prayer for this dear girl and her family as they grieve the loss of one of the best.

This week I had to run into Target and Von Maur (our area department store) and oh!!!! I caught the Christmas bug.

How is it that the decor, entertainment items and such at Christmas are the most beautiful, clever and creative every year?

I slowed my steps and took it all in with my eyes. I managed to only pick up three tiny gingerbread trees from the dollar bin with my hands.

We have tubs filled with Christmas trim and do not need another thing and yet the pull…is so strong.

I saw a post the next day on social media giving the advice to resist buying new and remember the repetition of your own items year after year is what brings this charm to the season.

Amen.

But I will be tucking those mini-trees in with some of the old.

Can’t help myself.

Here is something I want to make sure I do very soon.

I want to make an analog paper calendar of the rest of November and December. On the squares, I plan to write the events like recital, social engagements, sports, more sports, the other sports and the rest of the sports.

Then in the same spaces or any empty, God wiling, I want to plan things that need to be done. Or add some fun events that are always on my holiday bucket list.

This is the goal.

We shall see.

How are you preparing for the holiday rush?

People gift me things that have squirrels. It’s not because I love squirrels.

I love some people who love squirrels, but that is very different.

One friend gave me the towel pictured above and it is currently hanging on the stove.

Last Sunday, Caroline hung out with me while Mom attended Joel’s basketball games south of here. She was done watching boys fun up and down the gym floor and we had a good day together.

At one point she told me she didn’t understand my towel.

I explained what the expression about ducks being in a row means and the perception that squirrels are … in truth…squirrelly.

When I finished she looked back at the towel and said, “Well, that is very funny.”

A few days later her mom found these in a pocket when doing laundry….guess she does have ducks and they are indeed in a row.

Have a great weekend!
