Who is in the margins of your life that you are thankful for today?
I am still processing our vacation and the multitude of photos, so for today we have a short snippet of a thought.
This morning I landed in a passage from Ezekiel 37. In the margin of the Bible I am currently using for morning devotions was a note that read, “Helen’s word from the Lord.”
Farther in the passage there is a section denoted with a squiggly line and a heart to the side.
I don’t remember the exact conversation, but I can picture Helen with her vibrant eyes, one slightly slanted as if she is about to wink, her smile that punctuated just about every conversation we had and the deep thoughts that she carefully shared so that I would never miss some nugget of gold to carry with me into the future.
She and her husband Gene were mentors, adopted parents, dear friends, brother and sister in the faith and they are gone.
They have been gone from our area before they left planet earth and there are frequent times since the day we parted that I think of them and miss them terribly.
I wish so much I had written more details in the margin of my Bible for this particular conversation as I search the files of memory to try and pull up the gist of what she must have told me that day.
Do you have such notes in the margins of your Bible and life?
Do you have stories of people who left precious landmarks to keep you going in the right direction?
I hope so.
I hope you are doing the same for someone else.
I pray that I am doing so, as well.
This morning as I call to mind the conversations and moments that are not buried so deep in the data bank, there are some tears gathering, some laughs resurfacing and a deep gratitude washing over me for the people God has let me share the path with in various seasons on the journey <3
