T’is the season …. <3

It seems too soon for school to be starting, but here we are.

And while I feel like summer lasted about ten days and I would love to hold on tightly to it for two more weeks, I have little to say in the matter.

All that being said, the return to a bit more of a routine schedule is doing what it has done for me every year since I donned white ruffled ankle socks, buckled on my Mary Jane’s and slipped that first plaid dress with a white color over my pigtailed head for Kindergarten back at Fort Crook Elementary School on the air base known as Offutt.

I can still remember being shown a cloak room where a morning glory sticker marked my cubby and being introduced into the world of schooling that would forever after dominate the year’s calendar. I loved it.

I loved school. I loved, and still love, school supplies and the sense of order that the school year brings.

The school year provides a framework for my every day life and even though we are distanced by a generation from it, it still forms the boundaries for my wandering mind to be reigned into.

Summer is all over the place. Activities hit helter skelter. Sports and camps and random fun outings are sprinkled across the pages of the calendar with all kinds of opportunities for things to flex from Plan A to B to Z and back to A in a matter of minutes.

So even though I didn’t walk a child to a front door or pack lunches or look for that shirt that we had planned to wear but forgot to mention, I felt it this morning when I woke.

I felt the pace become more purposeful as I entered into the new fiscal year. I felt an ease in my breathing and a renewed energy to tackle the lists I leave all over the place.

I may celebrate with some new pens and notebook. I jest. I have more than any one human could use up in a lifetime, but thankfully it is permissible to get the new calendar for 2027.

See you at Target, friends.
