Just some thoughts to end the week <3
I don’t really have any fun story for you today.
It has been a busy week with some extra things added into our regular days. Not a bad week, just busy.
Our boys are full into the next sport season and Miss Caroline has resumed full activity following her tonsillectomy.
To be honest, the Christmas trim versus Let’s Embrace Thanksgiving debate coupled with the political jibes going back and forth is making social media a battleground instead of a place to see who got a new puppy and what somebody had for lunch and how to bullet journal my to do list so that’s a bit of a downer.
As a result, I am doing what some of you are probably doing and nestling in to catching up on housework, finishing a knitting project, starting a new book or just doing my Psalms study and praying.
I have puzzled about this need that seems to exist for individuals to make others feel bad if they think differently. So I guess I have landed on this.
If you are already putting up your tree and trim and want to post pictures, great. If you are firmly keeping your fall decor up until the turkey dishes are washed and put away, also great.
Posting your photos without explaining why you do what you do is nice. We will make our own suppositions about your preferred timing for celebrating various holidays.
There is a verse about that and I may be taking it out of context but it says…
“One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord.” Romans 14:5
As for political sides taking swipes at anyone who disagrees with him or her, no matter which side of the aisle or down the middle you are…there are some words for that as well.
“But if you bite and devour one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another.”
Galatians 5:15
There are also instructions for how to live under governments you don’t agree with and commands to pray for your leaders, whoever they are. I will leave it to you to look those up and follow the directions.
I am trying to remind myself of these verses and apply them to my life better.
So wherever you are on the current hot topics, this last verse applies well to all things:
“Avoid foolish and thoughtless discussions, since you know that they produce conflicts.”
2 Timothy 2:23
It’s easy to get drawn into the fray and try to defend your way of doing things or voting; HOWEVER…there is not a clear “winner” on these issues in God’s eyes.
Our leaders are ordained by Him for a purpose and that purpose may be bigger than our own personal interests, beliefs and standards. Our job is to figure out how to live godly lives and in all things seek to bring glory and honor to HIS Name. Not ours.
Our holidays are man-made for our enjoyment and there is no right or wrong way to celebrate them.
If I stepped on your toes, I stepped on mine first.
You are precious and however you voted or if you didn’t, if you are playing carols or still watering mums…whatever…you are dearly loved <3
