And because it is well…

So I continue from yesterday with a big P. S. ….

and I may just add something tomorrow…

because I am the queen of run-on thoughts or so I have been told.

As a follower of Christ, when I come to the place of saying in faith – even and ESPECIALLY when I don’t FEEL it…

that it is …

well with my soul…

I simply cannot rest there.

Because a true follower of the teachings of Christ never smiles smugly and says,

“So what if the rest of the world is going to Hell in a hand basket” (favorite expression of my parents when I was growing up) …. “Because, by golly, it is WELL…right here…with MY soul.”

No.

A true and genuine follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ is going to wrestle with stuff.

And mourn for the deceived.

And fervently pray through the watches of the night.

A true and genuine follower of the teachings of Christ is going to know that all this noise going on right here…this turmoil and division and confusion and angst…is a smoke screen to take our minds off of what really matters.

Because Jesus came to save the world…

unconditionally…

and yet…

on the condition that a person wants to be saved.

The most inclusively exclusive way is the way of the Cross…

it is extended to all…

but effective only for those who will receive.

And so,

yes,

it is well with my soul.

And yet I will walk a hard road and surrender all until my last breath in the hope that others will come to know Him who redeemed this sorry soul from that aforementioned hand-basket-headed-for-Hell.

But even if our gospel is veiled,

it is veiled to those who are perishing,

whose minds the god of this age has blinded,

who do not believe,

lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ should shine on them.

For we do not preach ourselves,

but Christ Jesus who is Lord,

and ourselves as your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.

For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness,

who has shone in our hearts

to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God

in the face of Jesus Christ.

 2 Corinthians 4: 3-6
