Back to School Randoms <3
Random #1
Loving all the Back to School photos. Not kidding. I look at every one in the stack and marvel at how big these kids are getting.
While social media has all kinds of down sides, this is just too much fun to get to see pretty much everyone’s kiddos on the front porch holding a sign or standing in front of chalk drawings.
Our first day of school involved no sign. We didn’t even think of it back then.
Ours had to all stand together and then separately. They had to do a front, side and back view with the backpack.
They are all buried in the stacks of photos in the basement.
They also might surface in my heart around this time every year.

I told the kids about how I always had a new dress for the first day of school. Either my mom would make it or my dad would purchase one.
It wasn’t necessarily because I loved dresses. Maybe I did. But there was no choice.
Girls wore dresses. Boys never wore jeans. And tennis shoes were for after school and weekend play.
I think I shocked them into silence.
I didn’t have the heart to tell them we didn’t use calculators, there were only three channels on the TV which shut down at 11 P.M. and we had to walk over and use our hands to get a different station.
Sigh.

One of the things I love about this time of year is a restoration of a sense of order.
There are fairly static schedules now.
There is a sense of purpose to the day and hopefully learning taking place.
I feel more productive and more organized.
As one mom said, summer was fun but it is definitely time for thinking and being responsible again.

We got a burst of cooler weather yesterday.
There was lower humidity and the breeze didn’t feel like a wet towel wrapping around the skin.
My mood has improved 100%.

Yesterday, Russ was running one to practice while the other waited for a ride to his.
Caroline and I played some cards and I fixed a cup of tea.
We sat playing Crazy 8’s and Go Fish, sipping tea and water and I have to say it was definitely a Best. Day. Ever. moment. It really doesn’t take much, does it?
Have a good Wednesday
