Just a little homeowners tip from personal experience <3

Well, we have had some good old fashioned winter weather this week. Freezing temperatures and ice blue skies, winds and even a decent snow last night. It has been so cold that yesterday when I came out of the Y, the sun was shining brightly and I thought it was so warm I questioned if I needed a coat. It was 38 degrees mind you, but as Russ pointed out that was almost a 50 degree shift in temperatures in a day.

I am offering a kind of public service announcement here gleaned from our experience this week with an odd smell coming through our dryer. I have been noticing it for a couple of weeks really and was concerned there was something wrong with our new washer that was making the clothes smell funny as they dried.

Then when I was putting bird seed out the other morning while the furnace was running, I smelled the same scent. I had Russ check where the vent was pouring out exhaust and he said it was definitely something in the furnace vent.

Of course I googled it and found that the heat exchange was most liked the culprit. The informational articles all ended with the recommendation to call a professional. I called and got a quick appointment and we have already had the repair team at the house to confirm this. They said this has been a common problem in our area. The age and make of the units seems to be common and many are going bad.

So if you feel up to it, you may want to find your outside exhaust pipe while your furnace is running and see if you detect a kind of burnt grain odor you may want to make an appointment with your favorite service company for a check. Our vent was right next to the dryer vent, and thus we were alerted to it through that means.

Looking back over this, I don’t think it is one of my more inspirational posts. But I can’t help but pass along things I have learned. Hope you have a happy Friday and a great weekend wherever you are. See you on Monday <3
