Random delights from the week

It has been such a busy week and we are rolling into recital weekend for Caroline which is a whole thing in itself.

So to wrap up the week…here are some random things that made me smile.

Random #1

We covered the Track and Field Meet in the far off land of Fairbury yesterday. Our two grandsons were the only ones who didn’t get to ride the bus. There were 15 going and 13 seats and we happened to be the ones available to take two.

Their disappointment to be with the team was palpable until a soaking rain drenched one and all near the end of the event. As we pulled blankets I had tucked into the trunk out and they changed into dry clothes and nestled in, there was not a peep about wishing they were on the bus.

Just contented sighs from the blizzards we picked up on the way out of town and then gentle breaths as they succumbed to well-deserved naps.

I do love Track and Field as a sport. There is something unique about the competition that is refreshing.

For one thing, there is no ref, ump or line judge involved. The one who throws the farthest, jumps the highest or crosses the line first is the winner.

Cut and dried.

No need to appeal to the judges or question the loyalty of the officials.

Also there is the way kids cheer for each other. Even if they did poorly in their event, there they stand at the fence hollering encouragement.

And where else in the arena of sports does the crowd come to its feet, calling out accolades and spurring on the athlete who is dead last?

Last night our Gdawg was hurting.

Struggling with a sore Achilles tendon, he also did something to the ball of his foot on the first lap of the 1600 meter. We could see he was having a rough go and not running one of his better races, but he poured it on for the last lap and finished.

He came up in to the stands to tell us what was wrong, ask about his time and get a snack. He had barely taking a bite of his sandwich when he handed it back to Papi and took off for the far side of the field.

Several of his teammates were running the 200 meter.

He gimped across the field to them, stood holding the blocks for one of them and then raced across the field to cheer them across the finish line, waving one of their sweatshirts in the air as he went.

I couldn’t have been prouder if he had won the gold at the Olympics.

Emmett has mentioned a few times about considering running hurdles.

He is still on the lower side of the height scale but did this stop him?

Of course not.

And so we are delighted to see him leaping across them with every ounce of determination he possesses.

I try to cheer but this darn lump in my throat prevents much sound coming out.

I want to be like him when I grow up.

We have officially entered the season where our dinner choices revolve around concession stands, fast food on the way home or me packing a dinner box for us.

I am googling ideas for things that are easy to eat on the go.

Sandwiches and wraps are okay but I do get tired of them.

If I find any great ideas to pass along, consider it done.

If you have any…please feel free to share!

Have a great weekend.

You are dearly loved <3
