Some randoms from Avonlea

Here I am, once again, pressed for time and full of ideas.

So quickly, here are five randoms I love about Anne of Green Gables.

Random #1

The various stories follow the misadventures and angst of the various children, starting with Anne and now her children. I am reminded of how in our innocence we can trust people who shouldn’t be trusted and in our imaginations we can create terrifying scenarios that seem so real.

As I have been reading, I am conscious of looking at our own little grands with fresh eyes. We never know what hurtful or frightening thing was spun on the playground and now rests behind troubled and cranky eyes.

Oh for grace, wisdom and discernment to abound in us who care for the young.

Random #2

I love the fellowship of women in these stories.

How we need women of all ages around us.

The stories we share, the skills we pass along and learn.

And I am so thankful for the community of women, of all ages, God has given me over the years.

Random #3

The author’s descriptions of nature have renewed my love for God’s creation.

I view trees and flowers, rocks and weather with restored wonder.

Random #4

I marvel at how much freedom and responsibility was given to the children in these stories at such a young age.

A five year old is commissioned to carry the cake to the women’s auxiliary event in town.

Eight and ten year olds are free to wander the hills and vale out around the property of their home.

A twelve year old cooks fresh fish he caught over a fire he made.

Our world is so different for children now.

It makes me a bit sad. No. A lot sad.

Random #5

As I read about the women always at work with stitching clothing or knitting or making lace, I feel incredible unproductive considering we have a zillion conveniences they didn’t have.

I also have added Prince Edward Island as a stop on my bucket list.
