The grass is always greener…

Hello and happy Friday!

Here is a funny on the tail end of my post of randoms yesterday from the social media fast.

I ran into TJ Maxx this week for a couple of things and at the counter they had some bags of “Joyride” candy.

If you have children or grandchildren around the ages of our four you may be familiar with the popular YouTuber, Ryan Trahan.

At best Ryan is probably mid-twenties. He does all kinds of across the country and the around the world trips with various themes like “50 Airbnb’s in 50 days” where he stayed in a different state every day trying unique places to stay. Or a trip he took with his dad to Japan to try several unusual trains.

He videos his travels using his phone, or so it appears. The script is pretty formula, but they love it and it’s clean, so we watch.

He also invented and promotes a candy he helped create that is free of dyes and chemicals and lower in sugar than others. Thus I was familiar with the label and snagged a bag for the kids to share.

Last night one of them was finally able to partake of his portion of the gift and Zach was home. Zach asked Graham what he was eating and the story unfolded.

Zach laughed and said, “So, Laura. Would you say that you were influenced by a YouTuber to make a purchase?”

Yes. Yes, I was.

It’s a tangled web friends.

So today as I watch this little store cat I share space with on Fridays continue to attempt an escape out the door I have opened to let in the spring weather, I am reminded of the lyrics to a favorite hymn.

Samuel is hearing the birds chirping and sees the streamers Anne attached to the windows for St. Patty’s Day blowing and he thinks he wants to step out on his own. It’s looking pretty appealing outside the open door.

But there are cars that will not stop for him, people who are not kind like us and food and water will not be conveniently dispensed for him regularly if he follows this path of adventure.

So I hear the strains of the third verse of Robert Robinson’s “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”…

Prone to wander, Lord I feel it.

Prone to leave the God I love.

The question isn’t that we don’t love God. It’s just sometimes the world grabs our attention a bit and distracts us from all we have in Him.

The antidote is found in the surrounding verses…asking God to bind my heart to Him, His grace tying me safely and securely to His love and kindness.

Hope you experience a good measure of the grace and mercy this weekend in all that you do and that you find yourself dwelling near Him each and every day. I pray that the “fetters” of His grace are a comfort to you and you have learned that they are not for bondage but for freedom
