Just off the top of my head and then miles to go before I sleep.

Literally…

Last night I was going to help Joel with some homework while Caroline was at dance. There are some restaurants around the studio and the library is close, but navigating those in the evening with a Trapper Keeper, a 10 year old with selective tastes and the streets dark already at 4:45 PM we opted to go in the nearby Jimmy John’s.

There was one guy working. The same guy that waited on me last week when I needed a quick dinner option. He was nice both times and so I asked him if he minded us camping out after we ate.

He said we were absolutely welcome to stay. There was a light but steady flow of business and so there were people and yet it was a calm place for Joel to think and write. I sat next to him knitting and just answering any questions that came up.

We felt safe.

It makes me sad that this isn’t the norm anymore in public places.

So for this place with an empty table, a nice worker and space for two nomads on a Tuesday night, I am so very thankful.

It reminds me the importance of being a safe place for others.

I read the best devotion on mercy this week, so I am sharing the details. It is from the book Daily Hope by Rick Warren.

Mercy is:

1. Patient with other people’s quirks

2. Helps when someone is hurting

3. Gives people second chances

4. Does good to those who hurt us

5. Is kind to those who offend

6. Builds bridges of love with the unpopular

7. Values relationship over rules

I was so touched by the Scriptures and words that attended each of these topics that I took an extra day to write them out.

I have been pondering a couple of things.

One is to really mediate on the items that I struggle the most with personally and to ask God for help.

The other is that I think about how Jesus was an example for each one and when I think on that point, it helps me with the places that are harder for me to show mercy.

I wonder if we were to sit and have a coffee what your harder items are <3

Cranberries are on sale at Sam’s Club for 99 cents a bag.

I bought two and plan to freeze them.

Do I have two from last year still in the freezer?

Probably.

But by golly, one of these days I will get a batch of cranberry bread and scones made…maybe.

Does anyone else have big ideas going all the time and then feel like a failure when they don’t happen?

It’s like I am letting people down who never even knew the wonderful things I was planning to do for them and then ran out of time to do.

Sigh.

Only me?

Okay.

When people ask me what we are doing for Thanksgiving, I really need to work an elevator answer.

An elevator answer is just a short phrase you can get out on the elevator between floors.

Unfortunately my answer is a dissertation on every single detail of every single member of our family’s individual plans, menus, possible changes to the menu and my philosophy on holiday time with family.

Maybe I can work on that while the bread and scones are in the oven…

Hope you are having a great week!

See you tomorrow <3
