Wednesday Randoms on a blustery day <3

Wednesday Randoms…on a windy day where the temperature dropped 50 degrees in 24 hours. Or in other words, spring time in the Midwest. So here are some spring-ish related randoms for your Leap Year Eve reading enjoyment.

Random #1

Rachel texted me while out running errands last week and said she had just picked up a couple of little things for me. She added that I am so easy to shop for.

I loved it.

I realized that as odd as it may sound, that is a high compliment in my book. Before you go thinking I am a material girl, you might consider that gifts are one of my love languages. I love picking up little things for people when I see the right thing for the right person and when someone does that for me, it is a tangible expression of their love back.

She knows I like little practical but pretty things and that it doesn’t have to be a particular style or brand or color…she just knows me and knows what will make me smile. I never want to be a person of whom it is said I am hard to buy for. And thus she made me day.

I got these adorable St. Patty’s Day napkins, because she knows that I do love to celebrate the Irish in us and we always have a basket of fun napkins when the snack smorgasbord is set out or dessert is served. So I was twice blessed…once with her words and once with the two sets of napkins <3

With spring, comes the grackles. Sadly, I have already spotted some hovering in the high branches of the neighbor’s trees. They have nests somewhere nearby and return every year. They were eyeing our bird feeder but so far I haven’t seen them bullying our little winter birds away.

So I am generously adding the last of the sunflowers to the feeder each morning. We will replace the menu with only safflower seeds when we replenish our supply. I learned that grackles don’t like safflower, but all our other guests are fine with it.

You attract what appetites you cater to. Just a thought.

As I was walking this week, I noticed little green leaves poking up through the landscaping along the sidewalks. Our own Iris are making their annual appearance. And when I went out to snap a photo a little bit ago, I saw the tulips our sweet Rachel brought me from her stop in Holland last year.

I was hoping they would survive my amateur planting efforts and they did.

Tulips, crocuses, daffodils…the heralds of warmer days and that brief but wonderful season we call spring.

While we are waiting for the real deal outside, I am enjoying our flowers from Sam’s club.

This is the last of the bouquet from two weeks ago. They are fading, but still have a beauty and charm of their own.

Spoiler alert….I picked up a new bouquet today to replace these but may have to fix a different arrangement as these little fellows are still making me smile <3

Speaking of fading and beauty and such.

A friend shared with me about an exercise program that is on PBS. It airs at the tooooo early hour of 5:30 AM so I record them and then play back at the more reasonable 6 or 6:30 AM.

If you are like me and suffer with the aches and pains of aging vertebrae, joints and muscles you may want to take note of this. I know many recommend Yoga, but that is one of my areas where I feel a definite spiritual no. Not judging anyone who hasn’t had that check, but for me it is not an option.

I do enjoy Pilates, but the addition of this “Essentrics” by Miranda Esmond White has been very helpful in the efforts to regain/maintain mobility in the aforementioned challenging parts of my own aging process. The exercises are a series of stretches without any spiritual implications in the process.

With the gift of recording and fast forwarding the whole routine takes 22 minutes and I always feel better afterward. The stiffness is gone and I am not sore or bored.

Again – if you get PBS, you can set your recorder to catch these different sessions and then replay them as you have time.

Okay…that’s it for me today.

Hope you have a good one. You are loved <3
