Wise little ones…<3

Last week I mentioned I had the fab four by myself. I did this for years until Russ retired and now I am used to having a teammate on days with them. This is particularly handy since they have different interests and activities now. 

So on Thursday when it was just me, we were trying to work out plans that made everyone happy. One of the ideas they came up with was the Y. The boys could play basketball and Caroline could swim. 

However; she had been invited to go swimming in the afternoon with a friend. 

As I explained why I thought a park was better since everyone would have things to do, she repeated that she wanted to go to the pool at the Y. I reminded her of her after lunch plan and how she probably shouldn’t swim twice in one day.

She looked at me, the way she does, with those penetrating grey/green eyes and said….we did it in Florida every day. 

True. 

So true. 

Twice and thrice and often more she was either in the ocean or the pool. All day, every day. 

Why does it make sense on vacation but seem extra when you are at home?

It makes me think about other things I do on vacation that seem downright decadent in my every day life. 

Going for ice cream, playing games, working on a puzzle, reading in the middle of the day, browsing a gift shop…these are luxuries that really aren’t. 

Sigh. 

I am always learning from these little people. 

I hope to be more like them when I grow up.
