Randoms for your mid-week…
Well, I didn’t fall off the face of the earth yet. We just have had a busy week so stopping by with a few randoms and then hoping I will be back to our regularly scheduled posts soon…
Random #1
We have temporarily moved into the digs occupied by our grands and their parents for a week.
Mom and Dad got the Golden Ticket of a work anniversary trip and we are so happy for them.
The kids are doing well and while they miss their mommy and daddy, we have had a good week and are grateful for the network of families and friends who our kids have established.
It is good to be reminded how hands on parenting little ones is and we are grateful for the opportunity to do this for our family.
Random #2
In light of that, I want to give a shout out to all the moms and dads who are still in the trenches.
The care and feeding of children is non-stop.
Laundry is a daily event, groceries disappear as the locusts graze through the fridge and pantry, schedules are fluid and all the new technology makes for lots of emails and updates that involve high flexibility skills.
On top of that, there is a constant dance between down time with screens as an option and analog living. It means stopping what you are doing and providing some card games, chores, outside play and gentle suggestions of activities that don’t involve electronics.
I don’t call it “the trenches” lightly.
Random #3
How are children not cold?
I do not remember ever playing outside in winter without a hat, gloves and a coat. We had to wear dresses to school and my mom had heavy pants to match my coat that I wore every day for recess.
I see kids coming out from practice in shorts and t-shirts…but they actually went to school the same way…and it’s wind chill of 20 degrees.
Help me.
What is happening?
Random #4
I think we have other people dropping their laundry off this week.
There are only four children and two adults and yet I have seen multiple t-shirts go through daily.
I do remember our own children sending clean clothes down to the laundry room so they didn’t have to put them away.
Finally had to ask them to at least rumple them as it was kind of insulting to have to wash the neatly folded clothes again….sigh….
Random #5
Russ and I are sitting in the local library right now. And that is an old photo from summer up there and has nothing to do with the library, but my mind is tired and you will have to just accept that as the random photo for this last bit.
We have had one home sick for two days so today was our first day where everyone headed out and the house was quiet.
We decided to get a fresh scenery and the library is one of our favorite places to go. The white noise of other people in the distance, the lack of any reminders that something needs to be folded or washed or emptied … all of it is a nice little break from routine.
Public libraries are a great gift to any community. A safe and warm place to go for reading, knitting or posting a list of randoms.
Hope you are enjoying your week and are finding things to be grateful for.
Hugs and if you need anything washed, feel free to drop it off….not.
