ahhhhhh…..tumn! <3

I have minutes to drop you a note, but I am determined to not leave this space empty another day.

We celebrated the official first day of Autumn yesterday and it needs to be commemorated. God blessed us with a cool, albeit rainy, day to mark the new season and it was okay.

Sure we sat in yard chairs, nestled under umbrellas and blankets to watch our boys win another soccer game, but there was a sweet camaraderie as murmurs were suggesting soup suppers and looking forward to the warmth of shelter that waited for us.

Various reports were made on how we are doing getting our “Fall up.” Which around here means switching out pillow covers and throws, using whatever your preferred method of sprinkling oranges, reds and browns throughout the house and placing mums and such in the landscaping and on the porch.

And pumpkins.

Let’s not forget the beloved pumpkins.

Our neighbors had begun perching them on the mailboxes in front of each house, the newest addition to the street was the first one this year and made us smile. This started a few years ago where one by one we followed the idea and now it is pumpkin row each year.

And that is one of the things I love so much about the change in seasons. It is the unspoken fellowship of community expressed through small traditions that makes us feel part of something bigger than we are.

God instituted feasts and celebrations for His people to mark times and seasons and to remind them of His role in all of it.

So yesterday as I brewed my first cup of afternoon tea, read under a blanket and laughed at the horrid weather for a soccer game with others…I felt a deep belonging to the family of God once again <3
