Oh technology…you shall do me in one day <3

Well… the World Cup is over and we have to wait four more years for all that fun to happen again. I hope the U.S. covers it as well when it is in another country. I will miss it. 

But that is the least of my woes today. 

We finally took my iMac desktop in to Best Buy. It has given me fits since the day I got it…in 2021 apparently. Sigh.

Speaking of being long-suffering.

When I bought it my other computer was displaying, at times, the black screen of death so it was urgent that I get a new one. 

This was freshly the post-Covid nightmare so things were limited, staffing was limited and I believe we had reintroduced social distancing and masks. 

I got this one and asked them to transfer all my photos and files over before the old one crashed completely. The person who handled it took that to mean I wanted the entire iOS system transferred. 

I repeat, the old one was displaying the black screen of death periodically….I took it back in and they took everything off, saved all my photos, files and some other things I didn’t ask for – reinstalled the computer correctly, we hoped, and then it worked sort of okay. 

No blank screen at times, but slower than our old Gateway dial-up that came in a box resembling the Chic-filla cow. 

Anywho…I have struggled with it for lo these many years and finally Russ said that it was ridiculous and unacceptable last week when it took me 45 minutes to try and open the bank statement. I never did get it open, by the way. 

So he took the proverbial bull by the horns and went in on Friday to see what we could do. While he was there waiting in line, he had the unfortunate experience of witnessing them telling a woman they had lost all of her photos. 

According to Russ it was not taken well as she slumped to the floor in tears. 

They said we could bring mine in on Sunday. It was with fear and trembling that I packed it up. With much prayer and by taking great strength in the Lord, we loaded mine up yesterday and took it in to see if there is anything that can be done. 

The technician was not optimistic. He thinks it was a dud to begin with and the years have not enhanced its dud-ness

But it is currently, for better or worse, in the hands of the Geek Squad. It has been bathed in prayer that my photos and files of writing will make it through safely to shore.
