In the after glow…

I was a bit leery of turning the page on 68 on Wednesday, but I should have known it would be fine. It always is. People were so sweet and kind that all the possible blues were chased away and I woke up yesterday looking forward to this year.

I have always loved my birthday and by the end of the day I remembered why. God has always blessed me to surround me with the sweetest people. It was a fun day and extended into Thursday so here are some pics and stories to document #68 on the Journey…

You all saw the “after makeup and hair fixing and better angle shot” photo on Wednesday, but this is real family life right here. Russ snapped my pic in my new Sophie shirt first thing in the morning and sent to family and then asked if he could post on the Book of Face.

I laughed and said why not. Everyone can use a good laugh these days so go for it.

He gifted me such nice things and the funniest card. After opening gifts, he went to his office and my phone rang with a FaceTime with these two cuties who are traveling in Spain…

As much as I don’t like technology sometimes, how happy I am for it at moments like this!

While they were talking, John called and he connected with me several times but no photo of him…boo hoo…as they were regular calls.

We went to dinner with this sweet one who is my birthday twin. Our husbands work out a dinner for us every year and I kept thinking with tears how blessed we are with the gift of each other and our husbands.

Tom and Peggy were friends before we had children and we lost track for a number of years but reconnected through church when our children were older. Their daughter had sent Peg a birthday cake as she couldn’t come home to celebrate, so they brought it to the restaurant and we enjoyed this fancy treat.

The party continued yesterday with Rachel and the kiddos. We couldn’t stay until Zach got home from work so we were one shy, but enjoyed all the love they put into the day.

This one is famous for her birthday signs and she sure put a button on my day with her artistic effort <3

When mom got off work, they surprised me with one of my favorite cakes…

Rachel set the boys to the task of getting it set up for candles…

There was a plethora of not only candles but ways to ignite them.

I was half considering calling 911 and half laughing so hard I wouldn’t have been able to talk if I got through.

Here is the result…

Also in the interest of all of our safety, Rachel commandeered the torches and did the lighting herself.

They sang and sweet Caroline is not sad…just very tired from all things summer.

It was a lovely birthday and I am so grateful for every text, post, comment, card, gift, hug, and slice of cake.

I am determined to take care of my soul, my health, my mind and the people I love even more this coming year. I pray for strength and wisdom to make the most of the time I am given and I am so thankful for each of you who stop by and share the Journey with me <3
