On days like this <3
Maybe it’s the switch from one season to the next.
Maybe it’s the fluctuations in weather and the unexpected and unpredicted overcast skies and cooler temps the last few days.
Maybe it’s too much weekend and starting the week a day later than normal.
Maybe it’s life on planet earth.
But I am feeling a lot of feelings today and most of them are a bit overwhelming.
For anyone who thinks that once your birds fly the nest, you have a reprieve from mom-feelings, you do not.
At least I do not.
And none of the women who I would sit down with for coffee do not.
Or we probably wouldn’t be lingering long over our mugs.
The mom business compounds as you gain a new generation, and you are still caring for and thinking about those first ones you raised and some days it just kind of adds up to a whole lot more than you have the energy to process.
I try to pray or read something, but nothing helps.
So this morning I was gladly and thankfully reminded of that passage about being yoked to Jesus.
You know the one.
The one where He invites those who are weary and heavy laden to come to Him and find rest.
To learn from Him.
To slip off the stuff that is weighing way too much on your heart and then just put your head through the collar of the yoke He is also sticking His beautiful head through. And He is inviting us to share the burden with Him so we are not pulling it all alone.
Sometimes I have to just stop and visualize me setting down all that is weighing me down and then putting only what really belongs to me on a cart behind Him and me.
Together, we will get it through the day.
In His strength, at His pace, in His way.
So take a deep breath today.
Set down any burdens that seem too much.
Take another deep breath and listen hard for His voice.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11: 28-30 The Message
The unforced rhythms of grace.
Doesn’t that sound wonderful?
Blessings friends.
Don’t take on anything you weren’t meant to carry and don’t try to carry what has been given to you all by your sweet self.
Come to Him and find rest for your souls <3
