“Rise” and shine <3
Well, happy Monday to you <3
I hope your week is off to a good start. I made one of my famous “To Do” lists and strove to add only the items I stand a whisper of a chance completing.
So far I have knocked off several and it is only 9:00 so things are looking good.
However, I made the fatal mistake of attempting a new Sour Dough starter over the weekend with a package mix we bought at the Farmer’s Market in St. Louis a while back.
I am currently trying to keep seven mums alive so I will be pretty booked for the next few weeks. So much for a lighter Fall schedule. Sigh.
The packet is freeze dried and laid on the counter for a long while before I had the courage to open it. Then I read the directions multiple times and finally last Thursday I just dove in recklessly and started the process.
While I marked reminders on the calendar and watched it grow in its new little mason jar incubator, I googled a couple dozen recipes and articles on the subject.
You can well imagine that my current feeds on social media are filled to overflowing with Sour Dough bloggers and AI content.
I have printed off one recipe and have another in the queue waiting to print, I have made copious notes and I keep telling myself it’s just flour and water.
If I mess it up, so be it.
We will not starve for want of bread.
My favorite comment of all the items I have read, because yes, of course, I am reading the comments as well as the posts, was this reflection by someone who seems to have a grasp on how we have perhaps taken this to a level it was never intended to hold.
Basically the contributor pointed out that our great grandmothers made bread for the family regularly and she was pretty sure they didn’t have digital scales, thermometers going, just the right bowl or towel to wrap it in or the time we have to over think it all.
Amen, sister.
The loaf in the photo above was from the starter I had used for a long time…it obviously had lost its mojo.
It has taken me awhile to reenter the race…but I am armed and ready….
Let the bread making commence.
