Summer kick off randoms…continued <3

We started our summer schedule this week with the grands so things are in adjustment mode. I had some randoms in mind for yesterday but missed the bell for posting. Here we go, better late than never I hope!

Random #1

PC/Papi

This one had a birthday on Monday so we celebrated with him on Tuesday when we went up.

He is growing by leaps and bounds and this nonsense needs to stop.

Next thing you know he will be wanting to drive a car and go off to college.

Bah!

Random #2

Speaking of Tuesday.

I was so busy getting everything packed up and loaded to leave on time that I left my phone at home.

It went undiscovered until we were too far to turn back.

So for the rest of the day I had to scribe any messages to one of the grands to send Papi when we were on different drop off/pick up circuits.

We also got a few chuckles as I would be asked if they could play a game on my phone…sure, if you can find it and reaching for it to take photos multiple times.

I also had to rely on an analog calendar system which Rachel wrote out on a piece of typing paper for me.

Not going to lie, it was kind of a nice little break and made me realize I don’t need to each for my phone as often as I think I do.

As you can see, I missed quite a few texts. As for the emails, that’s my usual average..not that I get that many in a day, I just fail to read most of them…sigh.

Yesterday we had a lot of rain and it came in all degrees from light to “Lord help us see the road!”

Since I was driving, my mind was busy at work doing what it does and I remembered back to grade school and a science lesson one day.

The teacher asked why there are more accidents for cars in light rain than heavier.

I bravely raised my hand and said that maybe drivers were less cautious since it was only raining lightly.

That would be incorrect.

It wasn’t psychology class. It was Science.

According to my teacher, the lighter water mixes with road oil making the lanes more slippery on the surface.

And as I remembered that very random experience from grade school, lo these many years later, it was a vivid reminder that I have been overthinking for a very loooonnnnggggg time.

Random #4

When I didn’t have my phone and even when I did but wanted to keep kids off of it, I played word games with them.

Things like memory where you keep going around the circle adding items to name off. This tends to go forever because Caroline cannot help but give you hints to keep you in the game.

We played Guess what number I am thinking of and 20 questions.

It was so much fun and so much better for all of us than staring at a phone. We had lots of giggles and imagination going.

I loved it.

Random #5

Summer ball has started and we have four playing this year.

Many of their friends have siblings who play on the same team as some of ours.

It’s a mix of these parents moving from field to field with yard chairs, snacks and water bottles in tow plus other parents, grandparents and more children.

Blankets are spread out.

Kids are running back and forth from the play area and bathroom.

Gentle conversations buzz around us.

It is wonderful.

It will make the summer fly by far too quickly, but we will soak up every kernel of popcorn and lick of ring pop until it comes to the inevitable end.
