Weekend recap <3

It was a beautiful weekend here on the Prairie. Mild temperatures, no humidity and crisp beginning and ending to the days. My mood has improved significantly, that is until I heard the forecast for this week which includes several days in the high 80’s/low 90’s.

Boo hiss.

Saturday we drove up north, farther than usual, to watch Graham play soccer. With a game at 12 and 4:30, we had several hours to find something to do. The town we were playing in boasted a couple of gas stations and the fabulous school they have managed to build.

So we sat in yard chairs and watched the boys eat and act goofy. We visited or just listened while others chatted. I knitted and we made a pizza run for the little ones. It was a perfect fall day.

On the way home, Russ had in mind to stop in Gibson City and eat at a German restaurant he has heard about. Their website led us to believe they were full with no tables available, but my husband (who happens to be German) was persistent and we drove up to what appeared to be a nearly empty restaurant. He went in and they said we were absolutely wilkommen to dine.

Thus I have some pictures to share as a recap of our day….

Zach had brought Graham and Joel to the soccer area Friday evening, Graham being fresh (as in freshly exhausted) off of a two day Freshman retreat. Lil Sis was missing her big brother so Rachel and company joined them. It was a treat to see all of them together in one place so we commemorated it.

While the coach chatted with the boys post-game and the parents set up the food, this one arranged blankets for the team. We are just beginning to connect that the time is short for her to have that boy in her vicinity and we are all a wee bit concerned how she will manage without him.

What am I saying?

We are all ruefully watching time fleet away the years we have left with him at home.

I really don’t know when the last time was we all just sat and rested together. It was beautiful and a treasured moment for this Lola.

This was our destination The Horsch Radish in Gibson City. Link here https://www.horschradish.com Please note you can probably ignore the reservations and no tables business. You may want to call, but we had no trouble getting in.

The service was so good. We had this wonderful bread and butter brought to the table after we ordered.

We had pork schnitzel with cinnamon apples, potato pancakes and the spatzel. I had a side salad and Russ had the potato soup, not pictured.

The portions were adequate and delicious.

The atmosphere is very European and quaint. We loved the lace curtains on windows and the bar reminded us so much of ones we saw in Normandy

The staff was having fun interacting with the diners and we definitely would go back again with friends.

When we came out, it was dark and the whole downtown was lined with the lighted trees you see in the first photo at the top.

So charming.

Hope you all had a fun weekend too!
