The holiday vibes are strong <3

I want to tell you about our day yesterday.

Sarah and Jack suggested we meet up with them before summer completely flies away so we picked Springfield as a connecting point.

I had researched some parks and found The Lincoln Memorial Gardens located along the lake and just past the zoo.

While it was extremely warm, we were able to walk the shady trails and see some beautiful plants and even some critters.

Jack spotted a turtle on a log out in the pond, we saw blue heron posed on a small raised area not far off shore.

As we were walking, I glanced over to the side and saw a large brown object. I gasped slightly when I realized it was a doe. She was lying in the foliage just off the trail. She rose and took off as we paused to get a better look.

A few feet away, Sarah put her fingers to her lips and pointed.

Through the trees we spied a fawn and then its twin, munching on leaves. Once they realized we were no threat, they continued to dine. We never saw mama again, but I feel she was close by.

This park is so beautiful with five full miles of trails or a simple one and a half circle around the perimeter.

The troll above is one of three tucked around in the landscape. We only found this one as it was beastly hot and humid and we didn’t do the full five miles.

There is also a play area in a Woodland Garden that is so charming for children. There is also a small discovery center to explore. It was air conditioned with water and restrooms.

The attendant at this free park told us to come back each season as there is a different kind of beauty as the foliage and such change.

We definitely will be back and hope to take the kiddos with us to meet up with Tia and Jack.

After we left the gardens, we ate a delicious lunch at Darcy’s Pint. I had the Irish BLT and it was fabulous.

From there we found a place to watch Spain triumph over Austria.

Then we had to say our goodbyes as they headed home and we headed to catch one of Graham’s games and then Caroline’s.

We were hot and sweaty and tired but it was a best. day. ever. for sure <3

Speaking of best days…while you all are celebrating the 250th of this nation, we will also be celebrating long distance the birth of this lil firecracker.
