A day in the life…. randoms from a summer bucket list <3
This morning as I scrolled through the Book of Face, I paused a while and enjoyed the story and photos of a friend who had enjoyed a “special day” with one of their grandchildren. It was all things the child had selected to do and I was filled in my heart sharing the moments via her words and pictures.
So to return the favor, here is a few randoms from our very ordinary day with our own yesterday. It was the best of summer all rolled into one full day. And even as I type and post, there is rather large lump gathering in my throat and forcing liquid love out of my eyes.
The days are slipping past and how grateful we are for the moments that make up those days with them. I am so thankful when Russ retired he wanted to be in on all the crazy train days. Yesterday was a classic…
Random #1
While we waited for the eldest to awaken from his slumber, Russ pulled out our ancient Rummikub box and the festivities began. That poor box is on its second generation, but it’s holding fast.
I may have helped Joel with some maneuvers, because while I am hopeless at math, I do love moving those tiles around and making the magic happen.
Random #2
Once Graham was up and breakfasted (four eggs, two bagels, two sausage patties and a quart of strawberries later…) we headed to one of those ninja places that they had passes for.
Of course everyone wanted to scare the bejeebers out of Lola so we sat and watched my worst nightmare dance in living color across the path for a while.
While we perched on the edge of this horrid chasm in tall chairs, this little cherub struck up a conversation with Russ. She wanted to know who we were watching. As she struggled with her chip bag, Russ offered to help and a few minutes later her little twin who was sitting beside her leaned around and handed him her bag, too.
It was the cutest conversation to listen to as she continued to chatter away with him. I don’t blame her. He’s pretty nice.
Random #3
After defying gravity for long enough, we headed to Sam’s Club (best meal deal going…we fed 6 for $16 and some change.
Then we loaded up some snacks for summer vacation and headed out.
Trips to Sam’s were a standard back in the homeschool phase on days we were up there. The chaos and antics are about as thrilling as a ninja park and I miss those days.
Random #4
Next was putt-putt by the zoo. Again we had some passes thanks to the Cornbelter’s game.
Emmett was the only hole in one.
Papi kept both the score and the peace.
The spirit of competition runs deep in their bones.
But in the end…we kind of made up..
Random #5
Our final stop is a summer tradition that we have managed to squeeze in every year.
A trip to Gene’s for ice cream with googly eyes.
The server didn’t hear Joel’s request at first so we had to ask if we could add them on the cone she handed him.
She was more than generous.
We enjoyed the cool of the shade and the yum of the ice cream and then it was time to go home.
Treasuring each year we have as these birds get closer to spreading their wings.
