Holy Week reminder <3
I have exactly ten minutes to get this written and posted, so I hope you will forgive any typos. This has been a busy week on top of a busy last week and I missed yesterday so felt compelled to share something with you today in case you showed up.
Last night we watched the episode of The Chosen that resolves Mary leaving the group and returning to her old life.
Matthew and Peter do find her, drunk to the point of being ill, hollow-eyed and full of sorrow and grief for her inability to live up to being a follower of Jesus.
The character of Mary says a profound thing that I do believe resonates in the heart of all of us, or at least should.
She says, “He fixed me once, but I broke again.”
The characters of Matthew and Peter explain to her their own fallen condition and point out all the ways she has helped others because of the change in her from knowing Jesus. They convince her to return and when she comes into the presence of Jesus, He reminds her that she is still going to have all of her human struggles. She will be tempted and she will stumble but He forgives her.
He reminds her that she doesn’t have to live up to any expectation, all He wants is her heart and the rest will come.
This is consistent with Scripture and so true of yours truly.
Mary could have walked away until she was strong enough to “get it right” or stay away because she did not understand grace.
As I read the story of the Passover in Exodus, it occurred to me again as it always does.
The people were not saved by who was in the house and how worthy or unworthy they were…anyone who stayed in the house, covered by the blood of the lamb on the doorposts and lintel were saved because the Destroyer respected the blood.
And so it is every day since Jesus died and rose again.
For those who have received Him, we are covered by His Blood. And we are saved.
Perhaps people have betrayed you.
Perhaps the “Church” has betrayed you.
The Blood will never betray you.
