On the road again….

We are planning a trip to visit John. It will be a quick trip so two carry on bags only.

It doesn’t matter if I go for 1 day or 20, if it involves me sleeping and waking, much much product is required.

I must figure a way to fit everything in these two bags. In 3 oz bottles no less.

Now when they (the wise men from the East) had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”                   Matthew 2:13     NKJV

So basically, Mary and Joseph had journeyed to Bethlehem in obedience to a taking of the census. Oh, and delivered a baby and such, in a stable. And now, instead of returning home as they had planned, God sends a warning through the Magi from the East and an angel. And what does Joseph do?

When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt…… Matthew 2:14   NKJV

Doesn’t wait til morning. Doesn’t ask for a sign. Doesn’t ask if it’s ok to run home and grab a few things and let people know what’s going on.

No. He gets right up, packs the family, and turns the donkey southward.

He obeys.

On this journey from birth to death, for me, am I listening and obeying?

Our grandson is 2 and his mommy reminds him when he lags in obedience, “What time do we obey, Graham?”

The answer is: the first time.

I am a child.

I need to learn.

When will I obey You? The first time. Every time. All the time.

Even when it means heading in the opposite direction of all that is familiar and comforting and expected and desired.
