Where do you get a warning sign for that?

IMG_1644Have you seen those lighted signs that flash your speed if you are exceeding the limit?

I like them.

Correction is clear. Action is simple. No gray area.

And I just think it would be really great if I could have one of those on that part of me that somehow continues to exceed the acceptable limits in life.

Mainly it would be nice to have it attached to my mouth.

Because I have a tendency to have a mouth that exceeds the speed limit of my brain.

I say what’s on my mind before thinking…

go for the laugh instead of considering the potential hurt….

vent my frustrations and end up bruising the innocent by-stander…

rant on issues I am under or mis-informed about…

gripe before I thank…

curse before I bless…

complain before I praise …

and yeah…

basically I am human and we all do it, and more and more it’s the norm.

But it doesn’t make it right.

James talked about the tongue and the damage it can do.

So also the tongue is a small thing, but what enormous damage it can do. A great forest is set on fire by one tiny spark.      James 3:5-6

He touches on the truth that all men and women struggle with this issue.

According to his thoughts, the antidote seems to be more quietness, more listening, more slowing down of what I think I need to say and more listening to others. I would do well to install my own flashing sign and begin to heed the warning before I break the limit.

I am sure my husband, who seems to have less need of a flashing sign to remind him of this truth, would silently nod his head…
