San Diego Day 3… packed it in before we packed it up <3
For our final day in San Diego, I got a treat. My high school best friend lives in San Diego and we had stayed with her and her husband when our three were younguns. I didn’t want to add another visit to someone in with all the festivities so had contacted her and told her we would be in the area but schedules were TBD.
Rachel got wind of this and she and Zach were on board with working in a meet up with Janey and her husband. Apparently I am one of a few who still call her Janey but she said she loves it so there you go.
Her mom was my second mom and my mom was hers. We spent the night at each other’s houses, she traveled with us in the summer the last two years of high school making life bearable for me and I lived with them when my parents would take off for several weeks in the winter those same two years.
Janey suggested we meet at a nice beach area that had a park and public parking. She and Peter brought boogie boards and mats for the sand and the kids were so happy to play while we walked and caught up.
I am grateful to Rachel for this photo, and to both Zach and Rachel for making this happen <3
After the beach, we said our goodbyes and headed to In and Out Burger for lunch.
It was packed. We loved it, although it did not make the top three on Emmett’s burger list. He is a connoisseur of this food category for sure.
After our feast, we went back to the hotel for more swimming and to get ready to catch the Trolley at a nearby station for the Padres/Lions game.
This photo is tender to my heart as it expresses the hopes and dreams of our little guy Joel. He had his marker and cards for both teams ready to go.
Sadly he did not get an autograph but he did make the Jumbotron as he waited patiently by the dugout.
Little sis had a different story. She missed making the big screen with only her elbow in view, but while walking the stadium with mom, she spotted the Padres mascot.
According to legend, she chased him right into a private party room. Rachel said he was delighted to sign her mascot card and the hoity toity guests were equally thrilled to see this little girl and the Padre having so much fun together.
Russ’s cousin Debbie, husband George and son Derek had seats nearby us. They shared binoculars and we got a quick pic of the cousin crew.
It was scarf night at the game. We thought this was funny for California weather until the sun set and we all partook of the warmth.
We had a great time at the game. Truly it was one of the most fun stadiums and atmospheres we have experienced.
As they would say in Iowa, a good time was had by all…
The Trolly was great. We were able to catch it right by the stadium and return to our cars at our departure point. It was inexpensive – $5 a person – easy to navigate and the way to go for an MLB game in San Diego!
We wrap it up tomorrow. Hope you come back <3
