Bending the law….

I spent yesterday with these two characters.

Sorry for the picture quality, but they are NEVER still…

at the same time….

Unless doing something dangerous is involved….

Which brings me to the law part of this…

Graham and I got a lecture from the Boss before she left for work.

It seems he hasn’t been listening very well, so the deal was…when she walked out the door, he had the promise of 6 books when bed time rolled around. One would be taken away for each infraction of the “listen on the first time” rule.

I had a baaaaaad feeling about the potential for success of him maintaining these. He usually gets 5, so I figured, since she built in a loophole, it was not looking good that we were going to make it through the afternoon without some kind of penalty involved.

He made it through nap time…and quite a bit of play time….before he tested the waters.

When I had to remind him about his parents’ preference that he not walk on the couch, he promptly stood up on the pillows and headed toward me.

Wow…ok…I met his challenge and informed him he was down to 5 books.

He seemed to take it in stride, which seemed odd until he turned around….did the same exact thing and then looked right at me and asked how many books he was down to now!!!!

I asked how many books HE thought he was down to…Four….well, at least he’s good at math….

And from there he was a perfect angel until mommy returned.

And here is what I think…I think he is a lot like his Lola.

It was worth losing a couple of books to see if Lola would follow through. Perhaps he thought I would be lenient and he could get away with a few things and still get his six books.

Oh wow…I do that with God…I KNOW what His Word says about things. I KNOW there are consequences for my sin. But sometimes, I have gambled on His unconditional love and His kindness and His mercy.

But make no mistake, while He IS loving and kind and merciful, He IS JUST. He will not …. WILL NOT….tolerate sin and disobedience in me.

Because in Truth…that IS LOVE, KINDNESS and MERCY at the highest level.

God bless you all as you move in GRACE <3

And, PLEASE, don’t stand on the furniture!

Shall we bow our heads?

Unless God reveals to me some purpose that He has hidden thus far, I have no moral to the following story.

It is simply a slice of my life, which for some reason is always stranger than fiction, and seems to give a lot of you a good laugh.

And as I look around, I can’t think of a better gift to give you than a good laugh….so here goes….

On Monday, I decided to take an old fashioned Prayer Walk.

I had a lot of things on my mind and so, without a cell phone or iPod shuffle – I headed out for a “walking and talking” with God in the beauty and warmth of a perfect Autumn afternoon.

With arms waving and mouth going, anyone who passed must have assumed I had a blue tooth connected to my ear…or an imaginary friend.

On my return home; as I walked in the front door, the phone was ringing.

The Red Cross. Of course. Reminding me that I was due for a blood donation. Anybody remember last week’s note? How they had canceled the drive but didn’t tell me?

As I was letting the caller know that I HAD gone to my appointment, blah, blah, blah….I felt this THING in the back of my hair.

I could feel it crawling, most likely trying to free itself from the web of product that gives me the illusion of hair.

So mid-explanation to the Red Cross representative, I began yowling that I have something in my HAIR!!!! and yes…of course…explaining how I had been for a walk and something must have followed me in the house, and I hope it’s not a wasp, and …. other panic driven words as I frantically danced around the kitchen swatting the back of my head.

And then. Calm. It seemed my hair was free of the intruder and, yet, as I tried to recover my dignity over the phone, I couldn’t see ANYTHING flying around.

OK. Yes, I also reported this to Phone-Guy as well.

He was politely sympathetic in a distant sort of way. I think he may have been busy jotting notes on my file.

I hastily made a new appointment for a donation and hung up. Still no sign of anything flying around. Weird.

Then on Tuesday night, Russ and I were at the table getting ready to eat our dinner. He said our thanks and we began to eat.

As I lifted the first fork of food to my mouth, my eyes rested on the chair across the table from me.

Perched on the top of it, looking back at me was….I kid you not…. a praying mantis.

A PRAYING mantis…..

I am pretty sure that is what rode in on the back of my head following my prayer walk AND showed up visibly, finally, as Russ said our dinner prayers.

I found this hilarious.

Russ calmly evicted my prayer partner from the premises and looked at me with that “How did I not notice this about you when we were dating?” look.

That look tends to make me laugh even harder.

I wish I had some wise and poignant message to tie this up with, but I will leave that to you today.

However, I do PRAY that God shows up at your table or gets in your hair or does whatever it takes to let you know today…..

He loves YOU <3 He hears YOU <3 He is for YOU <3 He is with YOU <3

Sorry there isn’t a picture, but I was laughing too hard and well, dinner was getting cold….

God bless you all!!

You are my best….fill in the blank

He says it all the time….wraps those chubby arms as tight as he can around my neck (and my heart); looks straight in my eyes and declares ….

“You are my BEST Lola in the whole wide world!”

And it’s true….

I’m also his only Lola.

Those arms wrap around every single person in his sphere of living…each one of us has our own name and our own place in his heart….

And he declares fervent and undying devotion to his favorite….mommy, daddy, Emmy, Papi, Gammy, Papa; each one by name….

None of us are Number One over another.

In our category, we are the BEST of the exact person we are to him.

I hear God’s voice in that declaration…

“You are My best Laura. No one else can be YOU the way I made you to be. No one else can do what you do the way I made you to do it.”

That is one of the lessons I am learning through the Children of the Day study by Beth Moore.

It is a resounding theme in much of what I am studying in other areas, as well.

I pray you are hearing His voice in your life TODAY!

I pray you are hearing Him declare….

You are My best ______________(fill in your name) in the whole wide world   <3

May God bless each one of you, by the name He has given you!

We do not need to compete. We have already won in our own category if we will rest in the fullness of His perfect love, as His love perfects us <3

Fall Favorites

Fall is winding down…you could feel it in the wind  blowing yesterday, the unseasonal and humid warmth as if summer was making it’s last attempt to remind us what the Midwest is like in August.

Just as the temperature reminded me of summer, the falling leaves spoke of soon-to-come snowfall…

IMG_3308So as bare branches are becoming more the norm….

I thought it a good day to remember some of my favorite moments of this season so far…. which seem to revolve somewhat around food, pumpkins and people I love….

pumpkin spice latte…

and reasons to eat tiny candy bars….IMG_3101

and….the view from our patio…

and…. the way the sun just makes shadows so unique to the season…

and…watching people rake leaves

and jump in leaves….

and just people and leaves….

and….pumpkin patches and little boys….

and family ….

and …. well…. pumpkin tea and pumpkin cake….

What are your favorites of the season?

I pray you are taking time to enjoy the moments. They pass so quickly.

Each is a gift from God….like you are to me <3

I pray God blesses you and delights you today with something that expresses His love to you in a way you can understand!

Harvest thoughts

Just in case you had forgotten or don’t live in the Midwest…this is how the seasons go around here….and I love them…every single one of them….I see God’s beauty and He speaks in and through His creation.

So today, I am thinking of a farmer friend of ours.  A special thanks to his wife, and my dear friend, Cindie for sharing the following pictures ….

I am thinking of how we have had several warm and sunny days in a row but tonight the rain is coming….here’s what’s going on today at a fast and furious pace….

As they have for several weeks, they are working to get the harvest in…

Loaded into waiting trucks….

that roll on out to be emptied and return to be filled with more of the in-gathering….

watching the sky as the clouds will begin to gather later today signaling the on-coming rain that will halt their work….

This morning I read about a different kind of rain coming…a different kind of harvest…but the same urgency.

The same need to respond quickly and work diligently.

The same idea that time is of the essence and we don’t want to waste a moment of it….

Come, and let us return to the LORD, For He has torn….BUT He WILL heal us, He has          stricken us…. BUT He WILL bind us up….After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight.

Let us KNOW….Let us PURSUE the knowledge of the LORD….HIs going forth is established as the morning….He WILL come to us like the rain….like the latter and former rain to the earth……         Hosea 6: 1- 3 NKJV

As surely as the farmer knows the rhythm of the seasons; the signs of the weather and the pattern of planting to harvest…we who follow Christ must see….the time is now for us to KNOW God….to PURSUE the knowledge of God….to look for the coming of his rain….His Reign….

Thank you Miss Cindie and Farmer Dave for sharing the beauty of your labor with us <3

God bless all of you who are laboring in the Harvest of the LORD!
